My doctor just called.

Sperm count is low-28 million.
I don't know what that means, so I'm off to Google. DH is pretty upset, but is at work so we can't really talk about it.

What a great way to start the day.

What a freaking day.

So in all my research I can't figure out what the 28 Million means. Dr C said that "they" like to see 80 million, and that DH only had 28 million. But everything I have seen says 40 million or 20 million is the norm.

Could it BE anymore confusing? WHY do they have to have multiple units of measure for this kind of thing?

I am so frustrated and angry. Not at DH, which is good. But where else can that anger go? At God? Well I've done that before, and it wasn't good. The Doctor? No, because this is an answer that we needed.

This verse reminds me that I should praise him for the trials we go through.

James 1:2-3
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
Joy? That's not exactly what I am feeling. I need to calm down.

I have grocery shopping to do which means I will be seeing my grandma today. That's probably a good thing. She is very good at making me feel better. And I can't stay in this house or I will go crazy today.

  1. Hmm, my doctor told me they like to see at least 20 mil. So 28 isn't too bad. I've known women who got pregnant with much much lower numbers.
And vitamins help! I put my hubby on a one-a-day vit plus zinc.

  2. How were the other numbers - morphology and motility? It sounds like 28 mil is a decent enough number provided enough of them are moving and well shaped. Could you have them fax or email you the results so you could do more googling?

I'm sorry for the bad news and bad day...I hope it gets better.

  3. Yeah, we were told that 30 mil was a great count, so I can't see 28 being bad. And really, all it takes is that ONE. I'll be praying with you!

  4. considering how awkward the testing was for your DH I can understand it being low...give him some time and retest. It could be stress making the number low. *hugs*

  5. I am sorry that the sperm count was low. Remember that counts can vary wildly, so you might want to retest in a few months and see if there's a change. Also, KK's husband over at Adding to the Pack (not sure if you read that blog) was prescribed Arimidex for low sperm count and his last results were a huge change and they ended up with a natural BFP. They did have to stop the meds though because it was affecting his liver some. It's something to possibly bring up with the RE.

I am sorry things feel so crappy right now, but I hope and pray they start to look up for you soon.
